Struggling to find high-protein dinner ideas? You are in luck! This taco beef is not just for tacos. You can use it to make a dozen different and delicious meals. This one is on my recipe rotation because it takes me no extra thinking, very little planning, it’s ready in 20 minutes and it’s so satisfying!

Use this to make classic tacos on Taco Tuesday, make it Italian-style by adding marinara and fresh basil or add a Middle Eastern flair with parsley and hummus! This is great for a taco salad, to have over a roasted sweet potato with some cheese, avocado & salsa or mix in with some eggs for an easy frittata.

Taco beef is one of my favourite dishes because it is so versatile and easy to make!

Use different herbs and toppings to create a whole new dish!

Directions

  1. Combine the spices in a small bowl. Set aside.

  2. Heat the oil over medium-high heat in a frying pan. I like using cast iron for this dish.

  3. Add the ground beef and break apart using a wooden spoon. Add in the onion and pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. Once the meat has browned, add in your spice mix. Stir to combine and cook for an few more minutes. Then add in the broth or water and keep cooking, stirring a couple of times, until most of the liquid has evaporated and the taco meat is saucy.

  5. Remove from the heat and serve in taco or tortilla shells or over a bed of lettuce. Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2lb ground beef

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 bell pepper, diced

  • 3 tbsp chili powder

  • 2 tsp garlic powder, or 3 cloves minced

  • 2 tbsp cumin, ground

  • 2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 2 tsp sea salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 cup broth or water

Notes

How to Serve - Serve in taco or tortilla shells or on a bed of lettuce with your favourite toppings. I love using guacamole, salsa, sour cream, fresh cilantro and pickled jalapenos.

Make it Italian - Toss with marinara & top with fresh basil. Serve with your favourite pasta or in a roasted sweet potato.

Make it Middle Eastern - Serve on a salad or bed of chopped lettuce, top with fresh parsley, Quick Pickled Onions and hummus.

Really Short on Time? - Omit the veggies!

Make Extra - Portion out and freeze for later!

Switch it Up! - Use ground venison, bison, pork or poultry instead.
