Want to make a lasting impression this New Year’s? Serve these Sweet & Spicy Nuts! These are perfect to serve as-is, add to a charcuterie board, bring as a hostess gift or to have as an easy snack!

Sure, there are other ways to make an impression on NYE. In the past, I have opted to wipe out in a snowbank outside a packed bar window while wearing a short dress, breaking a tray of glasses at a party & falling down a giant set of stairs. But this year, I plan to impress everyone with my nuts instead. These are perfectly toasted & buttery with just the right amount of spice & sweetness.

You can use any nut for this recipe, but I like walnuts for both the flavour & health impact. Have you ever noticed that a walnut looks like a brain? Walnuts support optimal brain function. They are high in omega 3s which help our ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters flow & communicate with each other which is essential to avoiding feelings of anxiety, depression, cravings, moods swings & chronic stress. Omega 3s are also anti-inflammatory, support a thriving gut microbiome & our heart health!

These Sweet & Spicy Nuts are perfect on their own or added to a charcuterie board!

Directions

  1. Toast walnuts in 350 degree oven for about 4 min, until just barely turning gold. Transfer them to a med bowl & turn the oven down to 300 degrees.

  2. While they’re roasting, whip the egg whites into soft peaks using a stand mixer or hand blender.

  3. Melt the butter & mix in with the walnuts, followed by the syrup, stevia, spices & salt. Taste & adjust seasonings.

  4. Then gently fold in the egg whites.

  5. Transfer the nuts to a lined baking sheet, spreading them evenly.

  6. Roast the nuts for ~12-16 min, until golden & crispy.

  7. Allow to cool & transfer to an airtight container. Enjoy!
