Citrus Strawberry Vanilla Mocktail
6 ingredients · 5 minutes · 2 servings
It’s almost the weekend, time to sit back & INCREASE our stress with a glass of wine, refreshing cocktail or beer. Yes, you read that right. Drinking to relax is counterproductive because it increases our cortisol (our main stress hormone).
When we experience stress, fear or anxiety, our cortisol levels rise to protect us. It increases our focus, blood sugar & blood pressure and slows ‘non-critical’ functions like digestion & reproduction.
So how does the body differentiate between an acute stress like running from a tiger & the chronic stress we can feel from having a schedule packed with work, kids’ soccer practice, maintaining a home & helping our aging parents? It doesn’t. And in turn, chronic stress can mess with our weight, digestion, mental wellness & overall health.
Since I struggle with high cortisol, I’ve been busy coming up with mocktails I truly enjoy to help reduce my alcohol intake & my cortisol. Join me this weekend in sipping on this tasty & refreshing mocktail!
