Spicy Cilantro Margarita (cocktail/mocktail)

This Spicy Cilantro Margarita Mocktail is perfect for a hot summer day or evening. And when I’m feeling more indulgent, I swap the water for tequila to create a low-calorie and zero-sugar cocktail that I truly enjoy. It’s fresh with a kick of spice and a hint of sweet.

I am VERY picky when it comes to my mocktails; they need to taste good and have a bit of a bite. While I truly enjoy wine and tequila, I know I cannot expect to drink as much as I did in the past and expect to feel great and manage my weight through perimenopause, and eventually menopause. And sipping on a great mocktail has helped me to break the routine of having alcohol simply because it’s the weekend. Double or triple the recipe and mix one up for your friends and family!

Directions for Spicy Cilantro Margarita

  1. Rub the rim of a rocks glass with lime and then dip onto a plate of Kosher salt, so that ½ - ¾ of the rim is salted.

  2. Muddle the cilantro and jalapeno with a dash of the lime juice in a cocktail shaker, until bruised and fragrant. Add the rest of the lime juice, water/tequila, stevia and a handful of ice. Shake for ~15 seconds.

  3. Strain into the prepared glass filled with ice. Top with soda. Garnish with lime and orange slices. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 slices of jalapeno, seeded

  • 2 cilantro sprigs

  • 2oz lime juice, freshly squeezed

  • 1.5oz water or tequila blanco

  • ⅛ tsp stevia, to taste

  • Kosher salt

  • Soda water

  • Lime wedge, dehydrated orange slices for garnish, optional

Notes

Too Spicy? - Omit the jalapeno.

Not Spicy Enough? - Do not remove the seeds from the jalapeno.
