Iced Matcha Latte

You may not like this, but if you’re struggling with anxiety or feeling sluggish in the afternoon, you may want to trade in your daily coffee for a matcha tea. Matcha tea provides an energy boost that sustains the day without the spike & slump some people experience with coffee. Coffee can also induce or exacerbate anxiety, and anxiety plays a major role in gut issues & IBS.

There are many benefits unique to matcha, starting with its l-theanine content. This amino acid, almost exclusively found in tea, has anti-anxiety properties & has been shown to improve focus, reaction time & memory while stimulating activity in the brain that fosters a state of relaxation & calm. I love matcha for this; if I have any work to do that is difficult or requires creativity, I have a matcha before I start because I notice a significant difference in my ability to focus without feeling anxiety about my workload.

Did you know that matcha has up to 100x more antioxidants than green tea? One of which is EGCG, which can increase physical performance & help with muscle recovery, making your next session in the gym easier & more effective!

I personally use Matcha Ninja, a ceremonial grade matcha tea that has been tested for heavy metals (which is unfortunately something we need to watch for in tea). To get the full benefits of this amazing tea, choose one that is high quality (ceremonial grade) & organic. This will also taste the best!

Directions

  1. Add a little water to your blender, whisk, then add the rest of the ingredients & blend.

  2. Pour over a cup filled with ice & enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp matcha tea

  • 12oz filtered water

  • 2 tbsp full-fat coconut milk

  • 1/8 tsp stevia

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ice

Notes

Make it Hot - Heat the water in a kettle (I like using the lowest heat setting on my kettle, but you can use any temperature you like!). Add a little water to a mug, add in the matcha & stir. Add in the rest of the water, the coconut milk, stevia & cinnamon to taste. Stir again & enjoy!

Make it Simple - Omit the coconut milk & cinnamon.
