Hibiscus Iced Tea

Hibiscus Iced Tea

6 ingredients · 40 minutes (2 minutes active time) · 4-6 servings

Directions

  1. Place the water in a pot with the cinnamon sticks & cloves. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, place the hibiscus in a heat-proof jug.

  2. Remove the pot of water from the stove & pour over the hibiscus. Allow to steep for 20 minutes, then strain.

  3. Add in the stevia or honey & lime juice. Adjust to taste.

  4. Refrigerate until chilled.

  5. Serve cold, and over ice if desired. To make this fancy, fill the glass 3/4 of the way & top with sparkling water and/or throw a in a couple of orange slices & lime wedges. Garnish with fresh mint.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups filtered water

  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus, loose leaf

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 tsp whole cloves

  • 1 lime, juiced

  • 1/4 tsp stevia (to taste) or 1 tsp honey

  • sliced oranges & limes to serve (optional)

  • sparkling water (optional)

Notes

In the mood for a cocktail? - Spike this with vodka (my favourite is Vodkow which is both gluten- and dairy-free).

In a rush? - Instead of boiling the water with the cinnamon & cloves, bring the water to a boil in a kettle & pour over the cinnamon, cloves & hibiscus in a heat-proof jug. It’ll still pick up the spice from the cinnamon & cloves, just be a touch milder.

Too spicy? - Skip the cinnamon & cloves. Boil the water in a kettle & pour over the hibiscus and then follow the remaining steps.

Make it hot - Only allow to steep for 5-10 minutes, then add in your choice of sweetener and either lime or lemon juice. Serve hot.

Can't do citrus? - Just leave it out.
