Decadent Sugar-Free Chocolate Sauce

Decadent Sugar-Free Chocolate Sauce

This rich & thick chocolate sauce is often (daily) how I satisfy my chocolate cravings. The best part - it’s shockingly low in calories & takes 5 minutes to make!

Cocoa is rich in polyphenols & flavanols that:

  • Enhance athletic performance

  • Improve cognitive function

  • Increase blood flow & lower blood pressure

  • Reduce inflammation & oxidative stress

  • Increase insulin sensitivity (a good thing for blood sugar)

  • Improve skin appearance

HOT TIP: Get cocoa that has NOT been processed with alkali (typical with ‘Dutch processed’ cocoa). This degrades its polyphenol content. It should be marked on the ingredient label.

Directions

  1. Add coconut milk, water, cocoa & salt to a saucepan and heat it over medium-low heat. Once it is warmed through (not boiling), add stevia & vanilla. Whisk well to combine.

  2. Taste & adjust for seasoning. Continue to heat over low heat for another minute.

  3. Remove from heat and allow to sit for 5 min (it'll get thicker).

  4. Serve over yogurt, pancakes, regular or non-dairy ice cream, whipped cottage cheese - anything! You can also use it as a dip for strawberries or enjoy it by the spoonful!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup canned coconut milk (full-fat)

  • 3/4 cup water (filtered)

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt or Maldon flaked salt

  • 1/4 tsp stevia powder (to taste)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Notes

Leftovers - Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. To bring it back to a texture that can pour, reheat on the stove or in the microwave. You may need to add a little more water or coconut milk depending on how thin you want it. You can also serve chilled.

Make it taste like a peppermint pattie - Add peppermint extract, start with 1/4 tsp & add more to taste if needed.

Make it Spicy - Add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon & up to 1/4 tsp of cayenne.

Make it taste like a Cafe Mocha - Add 1 tbsp of instant espresso powder.
